A Meissen gold-mounted circular snuff-box
Circa 1745
Moulded with concentric ribs divided by spirally radiating bands of scale-pattern, painted with butterflies, ladybirds, caterpillars and other insects, the interior of the cover painted in the manner of C.F. Herold with a harbour scene with a gentleman, companions and merchants before a towered building and a distant ship, the interior richly gilt (minute star crack to centre of cover, minor glaze scratches to base)
