INDENTM.M.London Gazette 28.9.1917. Private, 10th Bn. (Sunderland) Awarded for the attack and following actions 1 August 1917 - Third Battle of Ypres.
Bar to M.M. London Gazette 10.9.1918. Sergeant 10th Bn. The following citation was found in the records of the 55th Division (Liverpool Reference Library), "For exceptional bravery on 13th April near Festubert. He moved across the open and under extremely heavy shell fire placing men in disconnected machine gun posts; though buried once and badly shaken, he remained at duty, cheering up the men under very trying conditions, and keeping up connection with the remainder of the Company" (Immediate Award dated 13.5.1918)
Sergeant Peter Quinn M.M., who enlisted originally in the 2/10th Liverpool Regiment 19 August 1916 is mentioned a number of times in the Bn. History including page 227 "Sjt. P. Quinn, M.M. of "V" Company also had his share of excitement. He ran into a German patrol but managed to shoot the officer and get away untouched". A professional footballer, Quinn was acknowledged to be one of Blackpool's finest wingers; he transferred to Preston North End in 1920 for #3,000 and during his time with them he played in 87 League games, scoring ten goals and made 13 F.A. Cup appearances, playing in the last Cup Final before Wembley, 1922; transferred to Bury, 1923 and thence to New Brighton for whom he scored their first League goal, against Bradford 25 August 1923 (further details with medals).
