INDENT Captain Donald William Auchinbreck Campbell, born 1872, educated at Clifton College, was gazetted to the 1st South Staffs, June, 1892, serving with it at home and in Egypt until 1899; in that year he was appointed Adjutant to the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, South Staffs. Regt., retaining the apointment until 1903. He resigned his commission in the Regular Forces and joined the Special Reserve, which, however, he left in 1903. On the outbreak of the War he rejoined the 4th Battalion in August. In October he volunteered for active service and was attached to the 1st Sherwood Foresters. Captain Campbell and two men went out to reconnoitre a house, the garrison of which had been giving much trouble, firing upon trench ration parties. Captain Campbell and one of the men were shot almost immediately. (Mentioned in Sir John French's Despatches of 14th January, 1915.)
