INDENT Captain Hugh Mackay Coghill, born 1879 at Kandy Castle, Ceylon, entered the 4th Battalion Highland Light Infantry 1900, and served in the South African War with the 3rd Scottish Rifles; Captain 1906, and Assistant District Commissioner, Sierra Leone 1911-14; on the outbreak of War he rejoined the 4th Battalion H.L.I., and was attached to the 2nd Battalion in France, September 1914; he was killed in action leading 'A' company of his Battalion at Givenchy on the first day of the Battle of Loos, 25 September 1915 (Ruvigny's Roll of Honour refers)
