Lot Essay

INDENT Captain Claude Arthur Bignell, born 1896, educated at Dulwich College and Sandhurst, was gazetted Second Lieutenant Unattached List, Indian Army, 1905, and was posted to the 4th Rajputs 1907; advanced to Lieutenant 1910, and two years later was appointed Quarter Master; on the outbreak of War was advanced to Captain and served initially in East Africa; Captain Bignell died in Turkey, 21 November 1916, following his capture at the fall of Kut-al-Amara (Mentioned in Despatches), (Dulwich Memorial Volume refers)
