INDENTCaptain James Thompson Nesbitt, educated at Wallasey Grammar School, joined the Territorial Army 1910 and proceeded to France with the South West Lancashire Royal Field Artillery in early 1915; while serving with 'A' Battery, 95 Brigade, was wounded at Perone, 21 March 1918, and died four days later. He is buried at Etaples.
Lieutenant R. D'Arcy Nesbitt, was commissioned with the 7th (Territorial) King's Liverpool Regiment, 8 February 1915 and advanced to Lieutenant, June that year. He was severely wounded in the back and hand, 27 September 1916.
A third brother, Lieutenant A.E.W. Nesbitt, also saw active service in France with the Lancashire and Cheshire Royal Garrison Artillery.
Thomas E.Pearce, Master of the S.S.Barbary, was lost at sea when that ship was torpedoed in the Mediterranean, 12 November 1917.
Private Walter Pearce, son of Thomas E.Pearce, born 1897 at Seaforth near Liverpool, joined the King's Liverpool Regiment 18 February 1915 and was put back from foreign service on account of age; volunteered again and proceeded to France January 1916; attached to the Trench Mortar Battery, 55th Division and was killed in action at the Somme 26 September 1916. His commanding officer wrote "He went over the parapet with the rest of the battery, carrying up amunition to the big guns in action. On his way he was hit by a piece of shell and died immediately."
