INDENTLieutenant Colonel John Gavin Drummond, C.B. (1788-1851), born in Edinburgh, was appointed Cadet in the East India Company's Service, 1807, and became Ensign in the 1/8th Native Infantry in the following year; Lieutenant 1812 and served in the Nepaul War 1814-15 with the 2/3rd Native Infantry taking part in the actions at Nalagarh, Ramgarh and Malaun; transferred to the 6th Native Infantry 1824, and became Captain 1825; served in the First Burma War 1824-25, saw action at Arakan, and acted as Deputy Assistant Quarter Master General with Brigadier Morrison's Force; Major 1837; Deputy Quartermaster General of the Army at Cawnpore 1843; took part in the Gwalior campaign and was present at the Battle of Maharajpur; posted as Lieutenant Colonel to the 61st Native Infantry 1844, moving to the 41st later the same year (C.B.); served in the Sutlej campaign at the Battle of Sobraon, 1846; with the 30th Native Infantry took part in the Second Sikh War, the two sieges and capture of Multan and the taking of Gujerat; was permanent Quartermaster General of the Army, February 1850, and died at Kharian, near Jhelum, December 1851.
