Lot Essay

Hayes dates the present drawing to the later 1760s and comments (op.cit., no. 294) 'The fairly tight scallops outlining the foliage are closely related to the wooded landscape in the Louvre (op.cit., no. 289), and the handling of wash, to the landscape with reclining figure, owned by R.M. Barrington-Ward' (op.cit, no. 298).
