Lot Essay

Cheetham (op.cit) illustrates a fragmentary panel of this rare subject from a Te Deum altarpiece. He lists only four other panels representing The Holy Church: one in the Nottingham Castle Museum; one in the Burrell Collection, Glasgow; one in a fragmentary Te Deum altar in the Palazzo Bianco, Genoa and an example sold in The Hever Castle Collection, Sotheby's, 6th May 1983, lot 255.
