Lot Essay

An East Anglian commode chair with a clearly related splat is illustrated in Dr. B. Cotton, The English Regional Chair, Woodbridge, 1990, p. 226, fig. EA33. It is possible that the present set, which is of small proportions, was made in one of the large towns in that region.
