Lot Essay

This chest corresponds to a design by Thomas Chippendale that appeared in both the 1754 edition and the 1762 3rd edition (pls.LXXVIII and CXIII respectively). The intended arrangement of doors in the lower section is not made clear and the blind fretwork band has been simplified.
