Lot Essay

Cf. Paul Atterbury and Maureen Batkin, op. cit., p. 311, for a vase of similar form attributed to Charles Toft, junior. Although his father, Charles Toft, senior is mainly associated with Henri Deux wares, F. Rhead comments in Staffordshire Pots and Potters that he also worked with Léon Arnoux in the production of pâte-sur-pâte wares and it is possible that this vase was designed and painted by Toft, senior.
