Provenance
Given to the present owner by an uncle who had attended one of the Wild West shows when it appeared in London many years ago. The uncle recalled that Annie Oakley's act included the shooting of coins thrown into the air which were then stamped 'Oakley' and handed out to members of the audience.

The present owner learnt of the inclusion of Annie Oakley's Winchester in this sale through press publicity and decided to submit the coin for sale

Lot Essay

Annie Oakley was a 'natural' shot in every sense of the word and her act included an astonishing variety of feats. Most sensational perhaps were the tricks in which she split a playing card with a .22 pistol, or, turning and sighting in what, at the time, was calculated to be half a second, shot a falling four-inch tin disk before it hit the ground.
