A LOUIS XV ORMOLU SIX-LIGHT HEXAGONAL HALL LANTERN, with six glazed panels, one fitted as a door, between moulded supports, each with moulded pierced acanthus-scrolled arched cresting on six acanthus-cast scrolled supports meeting under a gadrooned disc, the later hanging-section with six acanthus-scrolled branches with conforming drip-pans and nozzles and with berried boss, the base of the lantern of waved outline cast with acanthus, the angles with pierced acanthus clasps and berry-cluster terminals

An identical but sightly larger Louis XV lantern which has hung at Fontainebleau since 1868 was exhibited 'Louis XV, un moment de perfection de l'art français', Hôtel de la Monnaie, Paris, 1974, Exhibition Catalogue, no. 435, having been published for the first time E. Williamson, Les Meubles d'Art du Mobilier National, Paris, 1883/5, pl. 41.
The marchand-mercier Lazare Duvaux sold a number of six-sided lanterns to Madame de Pompadour and Louis XV. Three were supplied to Madame de de Pompadour for Bellevue in 1750 followed by a fourth in 1751 which was 4½ pieds (144cm.) high and 30 pouces (81cm.) diameter and cost 4,300 livres. This last lantern was described in the Livre-Journal de Lazare Duvaux as follows:-
Une lanterne à six pans, en bronze doré d'or moulu, de quatre pieds & demi de haut sur 30 pouces de diamètre, garnie de ses glaces & chandelier, 4,300 l. - Les ports de six hommes & la journeée d'un qui est resté, 26 l.
Lazare Duvaux delivered a further three six-sided lanterns for Madame de Pompadour at the Château de Crécy at a cost of 1,750 livres each. Unfortunately their measurements are not given. In 1758 he delivered three six-sided lanterns to Louis XV for the Château de Saint-Hubert. These are recorded with the following entries in the Livre-Journal de Lazare Duvaux although unfortunately again no measurements are given:-
