Lot Essay
The black-headed icterus is one of several images from Edwards that were produced by both Dixon and Spackman. It is Edwards, vol.II, no.77 and it appeared as no.VI in Dixon's 1750 set and was subsequently pirated by Spackman for his 1764 set. The Dixon image is Longfield, 1980, fig.5 and the Spackman fig.12. Characteristically Spackman simplified the background that Dixon used.
