PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR inside upper cover "Herren Ferientsek, zu freundlichem Andencken des Aufenthalts im Saalthale. Jena d.15 Apr. 1818. Goethe", with portion of address panel on blue paper inscribed by Goethe with his seal pasted inside lower cover. Samuel Ferjentsek was a student of theology at Jena and also an excellent singer. It was while performing one of Goethe's ballads, that he first encountered the poet in about 1817. After that he visited him several times; they talked mainly about mineralogy and following his last visit Goethe sent his servant with this book in his characteristic blue wrapping paper.
