[PAGNANI, Carlo (fl.1520), editor]. Decretum super flumine Abduae reddendo navagibili Mediolanum usq; cum testificatione Christianissimi Regis in ha[n]c urbe[m] liberalitatis: & munificentiae. Milan: Augustino da Vimercate, 26 July 1520.

4° (205 x 147mm). Large woodcut on title-page of St. Ambrose with a group of nobles and the King of France standing in front of a town on a river, fine woodcut map of the course of the river on D4 woodcut initials. 19th-century green half hard-grained morocco. Provenance: contemporary inscription on last page 'Libro de monachi di Septimo'.

FIRST EDITION of this very rare little book concerned with making the Adda, a river which rises near the head of the Fraele Glen and which eventually joins the Po near Cremona, navigable as far as Milan, via the Naviglio. In the fine title woodcut the kneeling figures may be the engineers of the grand project, among them the author (cf. Mortimer, Harvard Italian, 349 for an abridged version with the same woodcuts). In the 18th-century a facsimile was made substituting engravings for the woodcuts. Sander 5379; Kristeller 58; Trivulziana I, 369.
