ALBERTUS MAGNUS (c.1200-1280). De Mineralibus et Rebus Metallicis Libri Quinque. Cologne: Johann Birckmann & Theodore Baum, 1569.
12° (125 x 70mm.). (Repairs to D4 and D9.) Later vellum (somewhat soiled). Provenance: R.H. Inglis (armorial stamp on verso of title); Free Public Library Wigan (blindstamp on title and three other leaves).
Written in about 1260, this is one of the most important scientific treatises of the Middle Ages, based on the empirical research of the author and not merely a reworking of earlier authorities. First printed in Padua in 1476, this is the last separate printing.
