Engraved portrait of Johannes Godefrid by Bartholome Kilian, etched title to volume I, letterpress titles printed in red and black, 23 engraved illustrations in volume I, including 4 full-page, 18 engraved illustrations including 16 full-page in volume II, and 2 engraved folding plates, 25 engraved plates in volume III, including 2 folding and 23 full-page, numerous woodcut diagrams and tables, including 8 folding, throughout. (Lacking at least 2 plates (plates III and VII) and final blank(s) from volume III, A4, V1 and V4 from volume I, title of volume II and K4 from volume III repaired.) Old vellum. Provenance: presented by Rev. Dominus Daniber, Canon of S. Cruce, to an unidentified Carthusian house (inscriptions on title of volume II).
FIRST EDITION of Zahn's work on the microscope and the telescope, which although incomplete contains the MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PLATES OF ANY RECORDED COPY.
