Title within elaborate woodcut borders, decorated initials, descriptive Latin text for the geography and the maps set within architectural borders, 49 double-page woodcut maps, and one map of Lotharingia on verso of map 46, including 22 maps of the modern world. (Occasional light soiling, small dampstain affecting upper corners and lower fold of a few sheets, neat repair to margin of last map.) 17th-century Spanish vellum, lacking ties (spine rubbed). Provenance: Library of the College of Jesuits in Segovia (inscription on title page, censors' inscriptions dated 1632 and 1707).

The maps in this edition are the same as those in the Strassburg edition of 1522. This fourth Strassburg edition contains the modern world map Orbis typus universalis, the first printed map in a Ptolemy edition to include the name America. Phillips Atlases 362; Nordenskiold Collection 208.
