A SWISS 1863 MODEL PERCUSSION INFANTRY RIFLE, No. 5679, with blued sighted barrel, case-hardened patent breech, long case-hardened tang, case-hardened lock with stamped signature 'von Erlach & Cie in Thun', walnut full stock, blued iron mounts including two spring-held barrel-bands and a muzzle-band, blued sling swivels, original bright ramrod, and nearly all its original finish, the butt with small brass circular plaque stamped 'M+S 143', and oval plaque inscribed '....Infanterie=Gewehr 1863' (the first part of the inscription erased)
