A RUSSIAN ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY COIN-CABINET
Late 18th Century
In the form of a classical temple, the moulded pediment above a plain frieze supported by four fluted Ionic columns, flanking a concave panel simulating a door with applied scrolling pediment, a door to the side enclosing twenty sliding coin-trays, each lined with pale green paper and four with coin-grids, with a door to the reverse of the top enclosing a plain interior, on a stepped plinth base, one tray replaced, restorations, with paper label to the reverse, 'Sothebys New York, 52', the applied scrolling pediment lacking armorial device, numbered overall
23½ in. (59.5 cm.) wide; 28 in. (71 cm.) high; 16 1/8 in. (41 cm.) deep
