Lot Essay

Jean-Ulric Erstet (d.1780), also known as Herstel, was elected maître in 1740 and flourished in the rue de Prouvaires and rue des Vieux-Augustins. A related Louis XV bombé commode by Erstet was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 13 December 1968, lot 118, while a further example was sold anonymously at Sotheby's, New York, 28 December 1995, lot 107.
