Lot Essay
This unusual rug combines an enlarged version of a field more normally associated with Chichi and two borders both of which are normally indicative of a Seychour or Kuba provenance. The weave here however is looser than one would normally expect from this region; the colour combination is also not that of the well-known examples. It has the feel of a village weaving made before the compact products for the commercial market of the later nineteenth century.
