Engraved titles and 168 sheets of plates, maps and plans (many with between 2 and 4 images per sheet, 4 folding and 6 double-page), 22 head- or tailpieces. FIRST EDITION, second issue of vol.I. A fine copy internally of the author's account of his tour in Greece in 1776, as part of the Marquis de Chabert's expedition to prepare for a new map of the Mediterranean. The success of the first volume was such that he was appointed ambassador at Constantinople in 1784. The second volume was started in 1802 on his return to France, but was completed after his death under the direction of Barbié du Bocage. Blackmer 342; Cohen/de Ricci 238. (3)
