FIRST EDITION. "The collection of plates illustrate some unusual sites, mostly in Greece and Asia Minor. In 1844 Devereux, captain of the sloop 'Snake' assisted a Mr. Alison of the British embassy at Constantinople to examine the sculptures of the castle at Bodrum. The drawings of the bas-reliefs in plates 15-18 were made at that time. The drawings of the other subjects were probably made at the same period.": Blackmer 482.
