The Gothic plates, inspired by designs of stained-glass windows, were originally made as a set of 66 dessert plates in 1831, and intended for use with His Majesty's Own Service at the Cottage Palace at Peterhof. It was enlarged by 36 pieces in 1843, and further increased later in the century. See New York, A La Vielle Russie, An Imperial Fascination: Porcelain, (1991), no.184-185.
