A .22 LEE-ENFIELD NO. 8 MK1 RIFLE, No. DA 1205, standard specifications and finish
24in. barrel, nitro proof
This rifle, built in 1952, was one of a special batch made at B. S. A. Shirley in the early 1950's for New Zealand, all of which bore the serial number prefix 'DA'. The No. 8 rifle was designed not only as a trainer for recruits, but as a weapon for use in competitive small-bore target shooting. It was, therefore, not designed, unlike other military .22 rifles, to reproduce the handling qualities of the full-bore .303 service rifle for purposes of recruit training
