Lot Essay

Gould wrote 'Although the Shore-Lark does not breed with us, we are almost yearly visited by sufficient numbers to render it no longer a scarce bird in England.'Gould recorded that a specimen found at Sherrington, Norfolk was mentioned by Yarrell in A History of British Birds in 1831.

DISTRIBUTION: Wide range, Holarctic and locally Neotropical between 77 N and 5 N. Numerous races described. The subspecies E.a.flava winters in small numbers in eastern Britain and has bred at least once
