Gould believed that this pipit was probably sometimes mistaken for Richard's Pipit, but as it was common in Europe during summer it could easily 'stray out its course and visit the British Islands'.
The first record of this pipit in England was near Brighton in 1863.
The beetle depicted is the Cicindela campestris.
DISTRIBUTION: Breeds from northwest Africa, Iberia, southern and eastern France and southern Sweden eastwards to Mongolia. Winters in Africa and southern Asia east to India. In Britain number of sightings has increased in recent years
