the lover and the beloved, a set of poems based around famous romances, Persian manuscript on ivory paper, 90ff. plus two flyleaves, each with 9ll. of elegant black nasta'liq written in two columns within gold clouds, gold margins and intercolumnar divisions between black rules, outer gold and coloured floral border, headings in white on gold cartouches in illuminted panels, ( a few folios slightly loose from binding), gold and polychrome illuminated opening bifolio (slight smudging), colophon on final folio signed by Muhammmad Reza b. Ziya al-Din and dated Ramadan 1234, dark brown lacquer binding painted in gold with a flowering plant within red and gold borders (slight damage to spine, minor crackelure and restoration), dark green lacquer doublures with gold painted narcissus and borders
