A SAFAVID ENGRAVED BRASS CANDESTICK with cylindrical body resting on spreading foot, angling out to the vertical sided flat shoulder, rising in the centre to the columnar shaft with central boss and upper slightly tapering and waisted nozzle, the body engraved with diagonal rows of cusped cartouches with scrolling vine around animals or with arabesques on a hatched ground, the sides of the shoulder with a band of nasta'liq inscription including the date AH 1004 (1595-6 AD), the shoulder and shaft plain, late 16th century (slight corrosion, possibly composite)
