Lot Essay

Antoine Crosnier, maître in 1763.

The maiden of this clock is closely related to a drawing of 1766 by Jean-Louis Prieur (illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p.167, fig. 3.4.4) for a mantel clock which Prieur designed in collaboration with Victor Louis for the Royal Palace in Warsaw, executed circa 1777.
