Contemporary red goatskin by the Samuel Mearne bindery for CHARLES II, covers with double gilt-ruled border with crowned Royal cypher in each corner, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in one compartment, the others with the crowned Royal cypher, edges gilt (lettered compartment with an old bruise, slight wear to extremities). Provenance: CHARLES II (binding; inscription [binders?] on front free endpaper "Present Book to K Charles IId") -- purchased from Harry Levinson, Beverly Hills, 13 April 1972.

FIRST EDITION. Casaubon's views on the relationship between Platonic philosophy and Christianity. Like his father Isaac, the Hugenot scholar Casaubon published numerous classical commentaries and theological treatises. It also contains an account of "the business of Witches and Witchcraft, against a late Writer, fully Argued and Disputed." Wing C806.
