1966 BRISTOL 409 TWO-DOOR SPORTS COUPE
Registration No. OLG 97D
Chassis No. 409 7309
Engine No. 1641-91259C
Navy blue with black leather interior
Right hand drive
In 1958 the Bristol 406 appeared and had a new two-door aluminuim body which whilst resembling the 405 was much larger with a sumptious interior. In the mechanical department there was an uprated 2.2-litre Bristol engine, all round disc brakes and an improved method of rear axle location. Whilst the car was well received the Bristol could not compete with the likes of Bentley and other high performance saloons and therefore in 1961 Bristol decided to drop its hallmark engine and settled upon the far superior 5-litre Chrysler V8. The first model was the 407 and this was gradually improved upon each year with the 409 appearing in 1966.
The 409 with its new improved V8 of 5,211cc and Torqueflight three speed gearbox could rapidly take the car to 132mph. This original example has been in the current ownership for approximately five years. The paintwork can only be described as fair with several small scratches and small area of blistering being evident. The original upholstery is also showing its age and the drivers seat has a tear in the top edge. The car comes with a quantity of Bristol Owners Club lists, spares handbook and a copy of the original sales brochure. The current MoT certificate expires in April.
