1952 AUSTIN A40 SOMERSET
Registration No. JHR 555
Chassis No. 719462
Engine No. 1G823149
Grey with beige leather interior
Right hand drive
The first new cars after the war came in 1947 with the A40 Dorset and Devon which replaced the Eight, Ten and Twelve. The following year saw the introduction of the A70 Hampshire which was to phase out the Sixteen. As time went on the range expanded to included a more sporty and stylish car which became known as the Somerset.
This car is being sold by the daughter of the second owner. He bought the car from the original owner in 1954 when it had driven 5,520 miles. There is the warranty issued by BMC at the time confirming this. The Somerset is in very sound condition, the doors close well and the interior is only a little worn. There is the original tool roll, first aid kit and luggage rack. The car has not been driven since 1977 when the last MoT and tax expired and has been stored in a garage. Storage has caused the car to begin deteriorating - the edges are just beginning to go and there is a little rust on the chassis, but this is just on the surface. The chrome is a little tarnished and there are one or two dents on the doors. The total mileage is believed to in the region of 70,000 although the milometer shows 39,803 - this gauge was changed in 1960 when the mileage was 31,317.
There is both the modern V5 and old style log book together with the sales invoice when the car was sold in 1954 for ¨625.
