Paris, 1768/1769, with the charge mark of Jean-Jacques Prevost and the discharge mark of Julien Alaterre, maker's mark partly rubbed, possibly '[?]DD'
Slightly tapering rectangular red lacquered wood étui-à-tablettes, of oblong section, obverse of cover applied with pierced gold inscription Souvenir, the reverse applied with a chased gold plaque depicting a quiver and a flaming torch, the obverse of the base centred by a glazed oval medallion containing a landscape miniature, within a gold border chased with laurel and ribbon-tie surmount, the reverse with an identically framed and glazed oval oil miniature depicting a gentleman in blue-grey coat wearing a curled powdered wig, pierced gold mounts chased with a laurel band twisted around reeding; gold-capped pencil and four-leaved tablets inside
