A fine late 19th-Century American lacquered-brass monocular micorscope,
signed on the foot BULLOCH'S PATENT E.B. MEYROWITZ MAKER NEW-YORK PAT'D 1880 and numbered 117, the body-tube with draw-tube and rack and pinion focusing and micrometer fine adjustment, the circular stage with glass cover over black paint, swinging substage condensor and mirror holder (mirror lacking), attached via a compass joint to a short turned tapering pillar and concave triform foot, with two eyepeices, one numbered 4½, the other numbered 2 and labelled Mikrometer 0,1 Mm, and two objectives in brass canisters, both signed E.B. MEYROWITZ NEW YORK, a and a ¾-1½, in the original mahogany carrying case (some minor repairs), the inside of the door with a printed label with a table of the magnifying powers, signed Meyrowitz Bros., Opticians, OBJECTIVES OF ALL MAKERS ON HAND AND TO ORDER 295 & 297 Fourth Ave., & S.E. Cor. 23rd St., New York. with steel carrying handle and key -- 13in. (33cm.) high
