signed faintly on the horizontal plate TROUGHTON & SIMMS LONDON, the 14¼-inch (36.2cm.) long telescope with rack and pinion focusing, spider's web adjustment and vertical skew-gear adjustment to the eyepiece, with bubble level holder (bubble lacking), the axis located on twin 'A' frame supports, with 5½-inch (13.9cm.) diameter vertical circle with graduated bubble level, silvered scale, twin verniers and magnifiers, clamp and tangent screw fine adjustment, the black enamelled horizontal plate with graduated bubble level, silvered chamfered scale, and twin verniers and folding magnifiers, with tripod mounting, fixed on a splayed tripod foot with clamp and a threaded peg engraved 41U, the legs with adjustable screw feet -- 13½in. (34.3cm.) high
