Title in red and black with woodcut vignette (soiled and laid down), approximately 840 woodcut illustrations showing scientific apparatus, plants, animals, birds, fish, shells, seaweeds, precious stones and minerals, after Hans Beham (Dodgson I; p.445, no.45) and Hans Schäufelein (Dodgson II; p.15, no.50). (Lacking Dd2.5 and final ?blank NN6, lower and outer margins repaired and reinforced, mainly in first 13 quires, largely unobtrusive after quire D, some leaves in first four quires repaired at inner margin, repairs on A1, A2 and AA4 obscuring some text and illustrations, some staining and spotting.) 17th-century blindstamped sheep (rebacked).
