[SIGNERS OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE]. MORRIS, ROBERT (Pennsylvania). Document signed, Philadelphia, 10 November 1790, 1 page, an oblong, matted and framed with an engraved portrait, A promissory note in a clerical hand; Morris agrees that "thirty months after date I promise to pay" to Mr. John Nicholson "for value received," the sum of $5,000. A vivid relic of the financial ruin of Morris, which resulted in bankruptcy and debtor's prison a few years later. -- RODNEY, CAESAR (Delaware). Signature, clipped from a larger sheet, n.p., n.d., a small oblong, 54 x 75 mm. (2 1/8 x 3 3/16 in.), a very fine signature with large oval penwork flourish. Together 2 items.
