A MEROVINGIAN BRONZE BELT BUCKLE
circa late 6th-early 7th century a.d.
The openwork plate cast in one piece with the rectangular loop, the tongue-shaped plate with a border of interlocking triangles within incised lines, framing a horse and rider with stippled and ring-and-dot ornament, the tongue with a shield-shaped plate, joined to the buckle by a rivet, three perforated lugs in back for attachment
