EIGHT MEROVINGIAN BRONZE FITTINGS
circa late 6th-7th century a.d.
Including a rectangular sword harness mount, box-shaped with flat projections at each end with attachment perforations, with two Style II intertwined serpents with ribbon-like bodies; a massive buckle with an oval loop, sub-rectangular in section, the heavy tongue with a shield-shaped plate, a fragmentary hook below by which it was originally joined to the loop, the shield with dot-punched linear decoration and a dot-punched swastika; a flat, ring-shaped mount, one end in the form of two stylized confronting bird heads, some dot-punched ornament, three perforations with remains of three iron pins; a disk brooch with four semi-circular projections, with concentric ring-and-dot motifs; a pentagonal mount with a lobed terminal, incised with a U-shaped strip; a tinned bronze mount in the form of a Greek cross, ring-punch decoration on each arm; and two small buckles, each with a circular attachment plate cast in one piece with a narrow oval loop, one with an iron tongue, the tinned plate with an anthropomorphic mask enclosed within zig-zag and key-pattern borders, one with a bronze tongue with a triangular arrangement of ring-and-dot motifs within a zig-zag border
