MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED TOKOKU AND SEALED KOKU IN RED LACQUER
Carved in the figure of a seated, wizened priest, his loose robes draped around his head and shoulders falling open above the waist, his begging bowl placed below the left knee and his fly whisk, rendered in polished and red colored ivory, resting in his clasped hands; the beads encircling the right wrist inlaid in colored ivory and hardstone and the two remaining teeth inlaid in ivory; himotoshi on the base with one plug ringed in jade, signed and sealed on the base--1 in. (2.5 cm.) high
