Lot Essay

The distinctive outline and use of veneers of this bureau cabinet relate it to a group of case pieces executed in Genoa in the 1760's. The radially veneered central medallion on the sides and fall-front relates to several bureau cabinets illustrated in L. Caimi, L'Ebanisteria Genovese del Settecento, 1995, pp.195-199, figs. 161-167. Another bureau cabinet of similar design and a single cabinet door is illustrated in M. Agnellini, Mobili Italiani del Settecento, 1990, p.96. A related Genoese bureau cabinet was sold Christie's Rome, 27 March 1990, lot 224.
