Lot Essay

Charmer, 1024 tons, was a medium clipper built by George Jackham of Newburyport, massachusetts, in 1854. Originally owned by Bush & Wilder of Boston, she remained with them until being sold into British ownership in 1863. She was a good carrier and spent most of her career on the New York - San Francisco - Far East routes. Purchased by W.H.Daunt of Liverpool in 1863, she retained her name during subsequent sales and is unrecorded after 1875.
