A collection of approximately 60 valentine cards in one album, some pierced paper lace, others embossed and cameo embossed, centres vary from chromolithographic to hand-coloured, some decorated with fabric flowers and leaves, some with gilded details, subjects include Birds, Cherubs, Fruit, Flowers and Amorous Couples, four heart-shaped, one cameo embossed paper lace valentine with decorative envelope applied to the centre with the words 'Cupid's Pocket Book' above, opening to reveal a bird entitled 'Happiness' and a ring entitled 'Bliss', another similar with a decorative leather bag applied to the centre with the words 'Cupid's Travelling Bag' above and a cameo embossed hand-coloured umbrella below, the bag opening to reveal two silver gilded hearts and a ring beside a book entitled 'The Lover's Guide' made by Dobbs Kidd & Co., other makers include Windsor, Wood, Kershaw & Son and Mansell, circa 1840-70, L. 6 x 8in. S. 2½ x 2½in; all contained in one album manufactured by Marcus Ward & Co., with silk endpapers and gilt-edges, the upper cover of marble (detached), with brass details, the central enamel medallion depicting two cherubs (damaged), each corner with an enamel medallion depicting amorous couples.
