A rare stage outfit comprising an ornate four-arch crown of scarlet velvet, gilt wood and metal encrusted with costume jewellery and fur including imitation pearls, semi-precious stones and simulated ermine, lined in polka-dot lilac satin; and a full-length cape of scarlet velvet trimmed with white imitation fur, lined in cream satin, labelled inside Costumes By Piérre, 112 Walnut St. Phila. In his autobiography Brown acknowledges that he first obtained the idea of wearing robes on stage when watching Gorgeous George in a wrestling match on T.V. in 1957. ...When he got through killing whoever he was killing he started walking around the ring taking his bows. A handler followed him and threw a robe over his shoulders. George shook it off, went to another side of the ring and took another bow. The fella threw the robe over him again...watching it, I said, 'We got to get a robe.' So we went out and got some store bought robes. Later on, we got capes that I designed and had tailormade...
