Lot Essay

This grate with its Grecian-scrolled ends with richly voluted tendrils emerging from flowered acanthus scrolls and its paired columnar feet, in the French manner, is typical of the George IV 'Antique' style illustrated in George Smith's Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826.
