The following five lots are from the collection of the late Leonard William Burt who was born in 1904. A skilful silversmith, Mr. Burt entered the workshop of Omar Ramsden towards the close of World War I. He spent much of his working life creating pieces for various silversmiths including Wakeley & Wheeler, producing articles designed by Eric Clements among others including a bowl and cover for Merton College and a chalice and paten for St. Nicolas Church, Kings Norton. He was made free by redemption as recently as 1963, hence the late date of the pieces which bear his mark. Although several of the items in these lots bear the marks of other silvermsmiths we are assured that most of them were actually made by Mr. Burt.
